Stempenyu!

Sholem Aleichem

Content warning [May contain spoilers]

You’ve heard of Fiddler on the Roof, now hear the untold story of the fiddler himself...

Through a surrealist collage of Yiddish storytelling, comedy, klezmer music and movement, the 20th century writer Sholem Aleichem connects us to the tale of Stempenyu, set in a Ukrainian Shtetl. In a space outside of time and inside folklore, the story of romance between travelling violinist Stempenyu and Rachel the Shtetl girl, explores the seemingly timeless tradition of the Yiddish world in tension with its impermanence. This 1913 play has been translated into English for the first time for this production.

This production is suitable for all ages.
