Ahead of their cabaret on Wednesday 13th November, Sam and Ava answer all your burning questions about their night of musical theatre escapism.
What is the show about?
Our show is a look into the future – we tell the story of a path that our hypothetical lives would take, and the trials and tribulations of a friendship formed in the ADC which takes on the world.
Why did you want to stage this show?
Ever since our first show at Cambridge, the 2023 Freshers’ Musical, we have loved performing together, taking every opportunity to do so. The CUMTS Cabaret gave us the chance to explore some less popular musical theatre songs that we had the most fun time weaving into our story.
What makes this show/production unique?
We decided to put our own spin on the cabaret format to fit our style and make it more of a fictional story. It’s about us, but not the real us – where else will you be able to find that?
What is your favourite part of the show?
There is a fun series of duets in the first act of the show, and they are just such a joy to perform. The first half of the show is largely the calm before the storm, so we really enjoy embracing the fun of it.
Why should audiences come to see this show?
First off if you’re friends with either of us, you have no choice. Otherwise, we can promise an evening of fun and fiction, full of songs from some more obscure musicals that we cannot wait to introduce to you!
What should an audience expect when they come to see the show?
They should expect an escape from the woes of work for an evening, to come and enjoy their evening with us, the wonderful Bolin, and maybe even some more special guests…
What will audiences take away from this show?
We hope audiences will be able to watch the show and remember that, even though it’s week 5 at Cambridge, happy days will be here again if you let them.
What have you found to be the most rewarding and/or challenging part of the production process?
Being able to work together on a musical event this term has been amazing – we’ve not been able to sing together since the middle of Lent last year, and for us to be able to not only do it once again, but construct a whole story around some of our favourite songs and see it come to life has been incredibly rewarding (organising rehearsals between us though… that was certainly challenge!)
